Of the four major poem/commentary works of John (1542-91), The Living Flame of Love is most unusual. Dedicated to a laywoman, it is shortest (77pp.) and latest in time (two inspired weeks in 1585). More importantly, its focus is the destination of the spiritual journey, union with God, not stages on that journey, as in his three earlier works. The principal agent of prayer near this destination is the Holy Spirit, the central image of whom is FIRE transforming a log into itself. If you are drawn to a vision of prayer that, while including thanksgiving, confession, petition, and intercession, is centered in silent adoration open to union with God, join us. Text: The Collected Works of St. John of the Cross (3rd Ed., ICS Publications).

We will be doing hand needlework and machine sewing, learning in Embroidery, Trapunto, Cross Stitch and Tatting with a needle (much easier than a shuttle). We will be doing a skirt and vest without a pattern, several different patterned jackets over a sweatshirt, home decor such as table runners and wall hangings and the much needed tote for carrying materials. Also, the holders we will make to keep our tools organized and in good shape. Let's be creative and use hand needlework for embellishment of fashions and home decor. We are bursting with ideas. Bring in your own.
Learn the ancient game whose name means "clattering sparrows" due to the sound made by the tiles as they are shuffled. We will learn American mah jongg using the National Mah Jongg League's 2011 card (do not get the 2012 card). Card fee and necessary materials is $10 paid directly to the teachers. No students may join this class after the first session. The class will not meet the week of 4/2/2012.
